Tuesday, June 19: "Unified Milwaukee" in-studio with Jay & Robyn
88Nine Community Team member Theresa Kopac and I dropped by the studio this morning for a visit with Jay & Robyn, where we shared community voices from some Milwaukee organizations that are devoting time, money and resources to bringing awareness and solutions to the city's gun violence epidemic.
Greater Milwaukee Foundation
GMF's Youth Advisory Council handed out two $4,000 grants to Milwaukee organizations who are using the money to stem the tide of violence in the city this summer. Grants went to the Congress Year Round School's June, 2007, "Black on Black Crime" series, and to Urban Underground's Youth Forum, which is planned for late summer, 2007.
We also heard from GMF's Senior Donor Services Officer Marybeth Budish, who told us about another Milwaukee organization that's being supported by the foundation:

We also asked GMF's Vice President of Grant Programs Jim Marks about his hope for Milwaukee. Here's what he said:
We ended the segment with a thought from CJ Jenkins, an organizer with Milwaukee's Campaign Against Violence. We asked Jenkins what gives him hope in Milwaukee today. Here's what he said:
Do you have hope? What makes you hopeful? Let us know.
Folks dedicating themselves to our city's youth gives me hope. For instance, check this out: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=621199. Hope through opportunity. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors.
