Yes! I love Bay View--and Fernwood Montessori is a fantastic MPS school...I heard they have a long waiting list for kindergarten. Its popular for its high academic standards--a fun, diverse and good K3-8 school.

Snow Sucks: Even More When You Use A Wheelchair

I think snow is pretty. When I was a kid , I skiied, played in the snow for hours, sledded, etc. and now I like playing with my own kids in the snow. But when it comes to shoveling--snow sucks. Many people say it, so do I sometimes. But, there are degrees of suck-itude when it comes to snow, my friends. A lot of people suck it up and don't say anything, but it affects them much more. I've come to realize that snow doesn't suck as bad for me as for my neighbors and coworkers at IndependenceFirContinue

Who's On First!? IndependenceFirst!

Who's on 1st? IndependenceFirst is! In case you live under a rock and didn't yet drive by, IndependenceFirst moved its offices to a 40,000 square foot space at 540 South 1st Street in Milwaukee. With its 90ish employees (over half have disabilities themselves--for real), 20+ programs and the need to grow to meet the demand for its free services for people with disabilities in the 4 county-metro area, IndependenceFirst moved its offices to lease at this new location in late O… Continue

Blogging is Tough yo.

I'm all about Social Media stuff and its all fascinating but, how does anyone get any work done? Seriously. If you are on Facebook, Delicious, YouTube, LinkedIn, FUEL Milwaukee Online, updating your own website, staying on top of trends, etc. How are people getting to do blogging? And, the idea of Twitter makes it even more baffling because you're tweeting all the dang day long. Hey, I'm all about trying to get positive exposure for IndependenceFirst which is the fantastic nonprofit organ… Continue

Caregiving: Past, Present, Future?

I find this quote provocative:
“There are only four kinds of people in this world. Those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.”
-Rosalynn Carter

Community-based caregiving options are important to live with dignity, outside of nursing homes...so why are nursing homes entitlements in our healthcare system, and waiting lists exist for a lower cost, independent living arrangement in t
