I think snow is pretty. When I was a kid , I skiied, played in the snow for hours, sledded, etc. and now I like playing with my own kids in the snow. But when it comes to shoveling--snow sucks. Many people say it, so do I sometimes. But, there are degrees of suck-itude when it comes to snow, my friends. A lot of people suck it up and don't say anything, but it affects them much more. I've come to realize that snow doesn't suck as bad for me as for my neighbors and coworkers at Independence

Who's on 1st? Independence
First is! In case you live under a rock and didn't yet drive by, Independence
First moved its offices to a 40,000 square foot space at 540 South 1st Street in Milwaukee. With its 90ish employees (over half have disabilities themselves--for real), 20+ programs and the need to grow to meet the demand for its free services for people with disabilities in the 4 county-metro area, Independence
First moved its offices to lease at this new location in late O…

I'm all about Social Media stuff and its all fascinating but, how does anyone get any work done? Seriously. If you are on Facebook, Delicious, YouTube, LinkedIn, FUEL Milwaukee Online, updating your own website, staying on top of trends, etc. How are people getting to do blogging? And, the idea of Twitter makes it even more baffling because you're tweeting all the dang day long. Hey, I'm all about trying to get positive exposure for Independence
First which is the fantastic nonprofit organ…

PLANNED PARENTHOOD’S
GET OUT THE Vote WEEKEND
November 1-4, 2008
WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!
With only 8 days left, this is it. No do-overs. No second chances.
The polls currently show that Obama is ahead, but polls aren't the election, and anything could still happen. The worst thing we could do now is stop working. Obama said it best today in Canton, Ohio: "We cannot let up for one day, one minute, or one second in this last week. Not now...Don't think for a minute that power concedes. We have…

I'm weaving myself into the fabric of Milwaukee by social networking, and although the concept seems new to me, it seems I've always been doing this...just didn't know it had a name.
So here are my favorite groups in Milwaukee so far:
CORE/El Centro

Thursday Novmber 8th Radio Milwaukee had the opportunity to gather with various local business and community leaders at Maxie’s Southern Comfort for an after-work/happy hour meet and greet. Mary, the animated bartender, kept the drinks flowing and Dan, the gracious owner of Maxie’s, provided the delicious food.
It was immediately evident that Milwaukee has very personable and compassionate leaders at its helm. There was an ease with which people circulated the room and introduced themselves to…

- I find this quote provocative:
“There are only four kinds of people in this world. Those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.”
-Rosalynn Carter
Community-based caregiving options are important to live with dignity, outside of nursing homes...so why are nursing homes entitlements in our healthcare system, and waiting lists exist for a lower cost, independent living arrangement in t

This is something I've been meaning to get off my chest.
Call me a cynic, but the more I think about it, the more I see the idea of Milwaukee being a "hypersegreated" city as being a myth perpetrated by those who have something to gain by us being divided and choose to fan the flames of racial tension.
Like many others who grew up here, I was led to believe that every other major-city was more progressive, had more to do, was more ahead of the curve and ESPECIALLY more tolerant…

ENCAPSULED IN THIS BODY WITH THE LANDSCAPE OF MY MIND BROADER THAN THE LONGEST LATITUDE, WITH A FAT ATTITUDE OF EVOLUTION AND A LEAN EXPRESSION FOR DISCIPLINE. RIPPIN' WINDS ARE MY THOUGHTS TRAPPED, AS I FOUGHT WITH THE REIGN OF MY REALITY THAT WAS DRIPPIN WITH EMOTIONS INTO THE CUP THAT RUNETH OVERWHELMED WITH JOY...ASK YOURSELF, AM I TRULY HAPPY? WHAT IS HAPPINESS? THESE QUESTIONS THAT I ASK, CAUSE ME TO INTROSPECT REFLECTIONS OF MY PAST WITH MY THOUGHTS FIXED LIKE A CAST ON BEING A SLAVE. TRA…
